Elvet Recruitment is delighted to be working in partnership with an established construction and property business to recruit an Accounts Assistant to join their Finance team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional to take on a varied role supporting the accounting activities of a property and housebuilding division and a portfolio of joint venture companies.

The successful candidate will be organised, technically capable and highly detail-focused, with the ability to manage multiple entities and competing priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

What You'll Be Doing:

• Maintain accurate accounting records across multiple companies
• Prepare and post journals, including accruals, prepayments and intercompany transactions
• Raise sales invoices and process and allocate customer receipts
• Monitor outstanding customer balances and support credit control activities
• Complete bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
• Post receipts, payments and month-end intercompany transactions
• Reconcile balance sheet control accounts and resolve outstanding items
• Support the preparation of monthly management information
• Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies
• Prepare VAT return information and support VAT compliance
• Maintain accurate audit trails and assist with year-end audit and statutory reporting
• Reconcile intercompany balances and partner loan accounts
• Maintain a high level of accuracy and confidentiality
• Support improvements to finance processes and controls
• Provide wider support to the Finance team as required

What We're Looking For:

• Previous experience within a finance or accounting role
• Good understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and accounting principles
• Experience with journals, balance sheet reconciliations and month-end processes
• Experience with bank reconciliations, VAT and intercompany accounting
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, lookups and pivot tables
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Proactive approach to problem solving
• Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team
• AAT qualified or actively studying towards ACCA, CIMA or ACA

Desirable:

Construction, property development or housebuilding experience

Experience working across multiple legal entities or joint ventures

Experience with ERP/accounting systems such as COINS, Sage or Microsoft Dynamics

Knowledge of CIS and construction-related VAT

Experience supporting year-end audit and statutory reporting
