Rules of thumb when applying These formalities should be observed

There are a few formalities in the application or letter, but still to note:

The cover letter should never be longer than a maximum of 2 pages, better is a page.

The cover letter is based on this 9-step pattern:

The font size should be easy to read. Orient yourself to the so-called 11-13-15 rule: In 11-point should be the entire running text, so all longer passages. Use serif typefaces, like the Times or Georgia. The 13-point font should be reserved for dates, addresses, subheadings (in the CV). Gladly also greased. Grotesque fonts without serifs – such as the Arial or Helvetica – are more suitable for this. The font size of 15-point turn please use only for your name in the header of each page. He should stand out the most. Again, a sans-serif typeface is best for this. And why the crooked sizes? Because most other applicants use 12-14-16 font sizes – 12-point is the default for Word.

Indents, lines and distances should be consistent on all pages of your application, as well as the fonts and font colors. Otherwise, the application easily gets a patchwork character. A one-and-a-half line spacing has proven itself – works more airy and readable. If you like it quite correctly and classically, you should orient yourself in the formal design of your letter to DIN 5008 for business letters (the application formally is a business letter):

And of course the letter of application should be formulated individually each time and tailored to the respective employer. No mass shipments! Be as active as possible, so use strong verbs and few adjectives.

Write and build an application: the CV

The CV in the application is actually only built up American today – ie with the current position first (default). The tabular form has also prevailed – the so-called tabular curriculum vitae.

Decisive for the success of your application is that the information in it is presented as clearly as possible and structured and thus can be recorded quickly. Because the CV is – even if he is not in the application folder on top – usually read first. The essential must therefore immediately jump in the application.

The most important curriculum vitae in the application construction

Left time information, right facts. Please no optical frippery. A CV is a mere collection of facts, not prose.

What must necessarily in the Vita, are:

Personal data: name, date and place of birth, address, telephone, marital status, nationality

Professional experience: The meaningfulness of your CV depends on the presentation of your professional career. The indication of the company name and a keyword to your task are not enough. Better describe in a nutshell (!) What company you were in, what position you held there, what you were responsible for and what you did. It works best if you can quantify your successes with numbers.

Special qualifications: training, knowledge, skills, languages

Training: This also includes possibly performed military or alternative service

For the perfect application, everything must be precisely arranged in terms of time and, above all, lined up seamlessly. Otherwise you arouse the suspicion that you wanted to cover up embarrassing stations. At the latest in the job interview comes to the language.
