BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER - COVENTRY

PROFILE

The company is a family-owned business based in Coventry, UK. They specialise in providing surface finishing solutions. They manufacture a range of machines, the consumables and offer a subcontract finishing service. Their products are supplied into a range of industries from Automotive, Aerospace, Medical and 3D Printing.

JOB DESCRIPTION

REPORTS TO: General Manager & Managing Director
OVERSEEING: 2 people within the Sales team

JOB ROLE: Business Development Manager.
JOB TYPE: Full time, permanent.

WORKING HOURS: 40 hours per week – Monday to Friday (08:00 AM until 16:30 PM)
SALARY/PAY: £50,000 - £55,000 per year (Dependent on experience)
COMMISSION STRUCTURE: 1% on all equipment sales per year.
OTHER: Company vehicle or vehicle allowance included (Ford Mondeo or £450 P/M)

ROLE SCOPE

The Business Development Manager will play a vital role in driving the commercial growth of the company's machinery and equipment range. This is a dynamic role featuring a 50/50 split between managing and converting incoming sales inquiries and proactively generating new business out on the road.

You will work closely with internal technical teams, including engineering and subcontract processing to understand customer requirements, present robust finishing solutions, and secure profitable contracts across target industries such as Aerospace, Automotive, Medical, and Additive Manufacturing.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Sales & Business Development

• Proactively research, identify, and target new business opportunities across the UK, conducting face-to-face client visits, demonstrations, and technical presentations out on the road.
• Manage, qualify, and follow up on incoming sales inquiries in a timely and professional manner, guiding prospects from initial contact through to close.
• Conduct site visits to customer facilities to evaluate their current finishing processes, identify pain points, and pitch bespoke machinery and equipment solutions.
• Manage the full sales pipeline independently, maintaining accurate CRM records of leads, quotations, and forecasted deals.

Commercial & Technical Collaboration

• Build and maintain a deep understanding of our machinery range, consumables, and subcontract services to effectively articulate their technical and commercial value.
• Attend industry exhibitions, trade shows, and networking events to fly the flag for the company and generate fresh pipeline leads.
• Negotiate commercial terms, pricing, and machinery specifications in alignment with company margins and sales targets.
• Ensure seamless handover of sold machinery projects to the engineering and service operations teams for successful delivery and customer satisfaction.
   

PERSON REQUIREMENTS
 

• Proven track record in B2B field sales, ideally within capital equipment, machine tools, specialist manufacturing, or specialist engineering sectors.
• Comfortable operating in a dual-focus role, balancing desk-based inquiry management with regular face-to-face field sales visits.
• Knowledge or experience within the Aerospace, Automotive, or Medical manufacturing industries would be highly advantageous.
• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify client needs and translate them into technical finishing solutions.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
• Self-motivated, highly organized, and driven to achieve and exceed sales targets.
• Must hold a valid UK driving licence.
