Contract Mechanical Design Engineer – Ampfield

Initial 3-Month Contract - Likely Extension - Hybrid

A precision engineering company based in Ampfield is looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer / CAD Engineer to join its multidisciplinary team on an initial three-month contract, with a strong possibility of extension.

This is a hands-on role suited to a senior engineer who enjoys technically challenging design work and taking projects from concept and proof of concept through to prototype and manufacture.

You’ll work across several major projects, developing mechanical solutions for advanced manufacturing applications. Using SolidWorks, you’ll produce detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings, while considering tolerances, manufacturability, assembly and overall design performance.

The role offers genuine design ownership, with the opportunity to work closely with electrical and controls engineers on integrated machinery and PLC-controlled systems. You’ll also be involved in prototype development, testing and design improvements as projects progress into manufacture.

Experience within precision engineering, automation or machinery design would be particularly relevant, while experience with precision bonding and alignment techniques would be advantageous.

The position offers a flexible hybrid arrangement, with home working available when project requirements allow.

Requirements:

• 5+ years’ Mechanical Design experience.
• Strong SolidWorks experience.
• Excellent 2D and 3D CAD skills.
• Experience with concept and proof-of-concept design.
• Background in precision engineering, machinery or automation.
• Good understanding of design for manufacture and assembly.
• Ability to work autonomously and take ownership of projects.
