5-Axis Milling Team Leader

Overview
EMBS Talent is working with a precision engineering business, located in Northampton, that is currently looking to appoint a 5-Axis Milling Team Leader to join their workshop team.

This is a key role within the milling department, combining hands-on technical leadership with day-to-day team management. You will work closely with the Workshop Manager to keep the department running efficiently, while developing the skills and capability of the wider milling team.

Our client is seeking an experienced and driven individual who can lead by example, drive continuous improvement, and support the business as it grows.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Team Management: Lead the development of the milling team through training plans and skills matrices, while supporting day-to-day management, including absence management and 1:1s.
• Operational Excellence: Drive productivity and quality by maintaining efficient processes, overseeing inspections, and supporting the Workshop Manager in achieving departmental objectives and plant upkeep.
• Technical Support & Improvement: Use programming experience (3-5 axis) to troubleshoot technical issues, carry out root cause analysis, and improve milling methods and standardised documentation.

Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate:

• Technical Expertise: Extensive background in CNC milling and turning, including setting, operating, and inspecting using FANUC, Heidenhain, and Mazak controls.
• Leadership & Communication: Proven ability to motivate a team and communicate effectively with stakeholders across the business.
• Advanced Skills: Proficiency in reading technical drawings (GD&T), using various measuring equipment, and supporting CAM fault-finding and program improvements.
