Job Description:

We are seeking a Data Engineer for a leading marine energy company based on Merseyside but operating globally to its maritime clients.  The company provides battery and hybrid energy solutions that are used across the maritime industry.  They offer products worldwide supported by remote and on-site monitoring to ensure a first-class customer service.

Data Engineer - The Role
This is a full-time permanent position working for an outstanding Company who will provide full training.
The role operates the observability and data infrastructure behind an industrial energy-telemetry platform.
You will collect and process large volumes of operational data and use that data to build internal tools, analytics, monitoring systems, and new products.  The role covers the complete data lifecycle, from ingestion and storage to transformation, analysis, visualization, and integration with end-user applications.
Specific tools matter less to us than engineering judgment, ownership, and a demonstrated ability to operate reliable data systems. You will learn the details of our stack regardless of which technologies you have used previously.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain reliable data ingestion and transformation pipelines
• Process time-series, event, telemetry, and operational datasets
• Build and operate ETL and ELT workflows
• Extract data from heterogeneous, incomplete, or sensitive sources
• Transform raw data into reliable, documented, and usable data models
• Maintain production data pipelines and resolve failures affecting ingestion, transformation, storage, or delivery
• Investigate performance degradation in queries, storage systems, and data-processing jobs
• Build dashboards, alerts, notifications, and other observability tools used in daily operations
• Convert operational data into analysis, internal tools, customer-facing functionality, or new products
• Integrate data platforms with custom software, industrial systems, and external APIs
• Work with cloud infrastructure, including compute, storage, networking, identity, and secrets management
• Improve the reliability, security, scalability, and cost efficiency of the data platform

Data Engineer - The Candidate
Preferred experience

• Strong Python development skills
• Strong understanding of data modelling and data analysis
• Experience operating large time-series and/or event datasets
• Experience designing and operating ETL or ELT pipelines
• Experience working with data ingestion, transformation, storage, and delivery
• Experience diagnosing and resolving failures in production data systems
• Experience building dashboards, alerts, notifications, or operational observability systems
• Experience integrating software systems through APIs
• Understanding of cloud infrastructure, including compute, storage, networking, secrets, and access control
• Experience working with production systems where reliability and data correctness are critical
• Strong SQL skills
• Understanding of data quality, validation, schema evolution, and failure recovery
• Experience using Git and collaborative software-development workflows

Data Engineer - Benefits

• A starting salary of £50,000pa. 
• The salary is then increased as you progress through training to £52,500pa after 6 months and £55,000pa after 1 year
• 22 days holiday (plus 8 bank holidays)
