Electrical Design/Controls Engineer

Salary: £40,000-£55,000 DOE + up to 25% bonus
Jackson Hogg are delighted be working with a global provider of combat engineering equipment within the defence sector. This client is looking to bring an Electrical Design/Controls to be part of a team responsible for product design, innovative product development, and the delivery of the complete manufacturing and technical data packs associated with their contracts.
This is a permanent, hybrid role (2 days working from home), based in Newcastle.
Key Responsibilities:
- Working within a multi-discipline engineering team to meet the project requirements.
- Develop electrical designs from concept through to manufacturing detail, including specifications of proprietary components, supporting analysis and reports.
- Develop, program, and test PLC systems for controlling PEL products.
- Hosting and participating in internal and external design reviews, providing technical input throughput the development of a product/solution.
- Supporting verification of fellow engineers’ designs.
- Developing the testing requirements for both prototype and product manufacture.
- Supporting build, commissioning, and trials of new products.
- Analysing problems and producing ideas/designs to solve them.
- Working within the budget to deliver safe, effective products, on-time and to specification.
- Maintaining a knowledge of current technical trends and innovation to assist in the development of current and future products.
- Supporting delivery of customer training.
- Working cross functionally (Commercial, Sales, Projects teams) within the business to improve efficiency and deliver effective products.
- Coaching team members to improve capabilities and develop their engineering knowledge / expertise.
Key Requirements:
- A degree in Electrical, Control, or Electronics Engineering, Science, Physics or Maths with a grade of at least a 2:1 or an equivalent qualification and experience.
- Proven experience in automotive, robotics, or manufacturing industry.
- Experience of electronics and electrical design is essential.
- Knowledge of PLC software is beneficial but can be trained on the role.
- Able to think laterally when problem solving.
- Ability to investigate and interpret data, issues, and situations, to make sound decisions in high-stress situations.
