Electrical Design Engineer

Location: Solihull, West Midlands
Salary: £38,000–£55,000 depending on experience
Job Type: Permanent, Full-time
Hours: 36.25 hours per week

About the Role

We are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer at Intermediate to early Senior level to join a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy in Solihull.

This is an excellent opportunity for an electrical building-services professional who enjoys developing practical, coordinated and energy-efficient design solutions and wants to work across a range of built-environment projects.

You will work alongside experienced engineers and other design disciplines, contributing to projects from initial design through to delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop electrical building-services designs in line with project requirements.

• Carry out electrical calculations, including load assessments, distribution and cable sizing.

• Develop lighting and power designs using appropriate design principles and software.

• Produce drawings, specifications, equipment schedules and other technical documentation.

• Coordinate electrical systems with mechanical, structural and architectural disciplines.

• Contribute to design meetings and communicate technical information clearly to clients and project teams.

• Support the resolution of technical queries during project delivery.

• Review and check design work to ensure quality, compliance and practical application.

• Manage your own design deliverables and contribute to meeting project deadlines.

About You

We are looking for someone with experience in electrical building-services design, rather than installation or maintenance-focused experience.

You should have:

• Experience designing electrical systems for building-services projects.

• Practical experience with electrical calculations, drawings and technical documentation.

• The ability to take ownership of electrical design packages and deliverables.

• Good communication and multidisciplinary coordination skills.

• An electrical engineering degree, HNC/HND or equivalent relevant experience.

Desirable Skills

Experience with some of the following would be advantageous:

• Revit

• Amtech / Trimble

• DIALux / Relux

• Power and lighting design

• Renewable energy systems

• BREEAM

• Healthcare / HTM projects

• CIBSE or IET membership

• Progress towards professional chartership
