Job Description:

Our client, an innovative organisation within the defence, security and maritime sectors, is seeking an Electrical Systems Engineer to support the design, integration and testing of advanced Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV) platforms in Fareham. This permanent role will focus on developing robust, marine-ready electrical architectures that deliver reliable performance in demanding maritime environments.

• Design and develop electrical architectures for USV platforms, supporting mission-critical and auxiliary systems.
• Create wiring harnesses, power distribution networks and EMC/EMI-compliant layouts for marine applications.
• Select, evaluate and qualify electrical components, including power supplies, DC-DC converters, relays, connectors, sensors and protection devices.
• Collaborate with mechanical, systems and software engineering teams to ensure effective system integration and interface compatibility.
• Conduct electrical testing, diagnostics and troubleshooting, supporting bench testing, harbour acceptance tests and sea trials.
• Produce and maintain electrical schematics, harness drawings, bills of materials, test plans, technical reports and compliance documentation.
• Apply knowledge of low-voltage DC systems, grounding strategies, switching protection, battery systems and marine-specific electrical design.
• Support quality, health and safety, environmental and continuous improvement processes while working collaboratively with UK and international teams.

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience in electrical systems design, ideally within marine, robotics, defence or other complex engineering environments.
• Strong understanding of Electrical Engineering and Systems Engineering principles, including USV integration and power electronics.
• Practical knowledge of low-voltage power systems, including 12-48V architectures, DC-DC converters, battery management systems and grounding strategies.
• Proficiency with ECAD or electrical design tools such as DraftSight, SolidWorks Electrical or similar software.
• Ability to produce electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, harness drawings and electrical bills of materials.
• Hands-on experience using oscilloscopes, multimeters, CAN analysers and other diagnostic equipment.
• Understanding of EMC/EMI considerations, RF and antenna layout, EMI shielding, AS9100 workflows, software testing and quality assurance methodologies.

• Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting and analytical skills.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information effectively.
• A collaborative approach and the ability to work independently within multidisciplinary teams.
