Job Description:
A Government Department are seeking an Enterprise Architect for an 18 month contract. The role is hybrid (2 days onsite a week) and paying around £600pd (inside IR35).
The role requires active clearance at DV level.
Reporting to the Head of Capability Transition, the Enterprise Architect is responsible for defining, maintaining and governing the enterprise architecture that supports a major capability programme and other capability development initiatives. The role provides strategic architectural leadership across technology, infrastructure, security and information domains, ensuring capability investments align with organisational objectives, technical security requirements and long-term national security outcomes.
Acting as the lead for the Technology & Architecture workstream, the Enterprise Architect will define target architectures, enterprise standards, integration patterns and technology roadmaps that enable the delivery of a scalable, interoperable and sustainable technology ecosystem.
Requirements:
- Act as the enterprise architecture lead for capability development and transition programmes.
- Define, maintain and evolve enterprise architecture principles, standards, reference architectures, integration patterns and technology roadmaps.
- Develop target-state architectures that support strategic objectives, operational requirements and future capability needs.
- Establish and maintain architecture governance frameworks, review processes and assurance activities.
- Act as the architectural design authority, providing independent challenge and oversight of solution architectures, technical designs and major technology changes.
- Ensure architectures adopt a security-by-design approach throughout the capability lifecycle.
- Engage with operational, technical, business and security stakeholders to translate requirements into enterprise architecture outcomes.
- Act as a trusted adviser on architecture strategy, governance, technology investment and technical risk.
Experience:
- Significant experience in enterprise, infrastructure, systems, or security architecture, including the definition, governance, and assurance of complex technical architectures within regulated, security-focused, or operationally critical environments.
- Strong understanding of enterprise architecture, systems integration, technology strategy, and architectural governance, with experience developing architecture standards, design principles, governance frameworks, technology roadmaps, and integration strategies across complex technology portfolios.
- Proven ability to assess architectural risks, evaluate technical trade-offs, and review, challenge, and assure solution architectures, technical designs, and strategic technology decisions.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Level 6 qualification in Engineering, Computer Science, Technology, Cyber Security, or a related STEM discipline (or equivalent professional experience), together with membership of a relevant professional institution or equivalent professional standing
