European Transport Business Development Manager Overview

My client is looking for a driven and commercially focused European Transport Business Development Manager to join their growing team. This is a purely new-business-focused, field-based sales role.

You will be responsible for getting out on the road, identifying potential customers, building relationships, selling our European transport solutions and winning new accounts.

They are looking for someone who is motivated by hunting for new business, opening doors, generating opportunities and closing deals.

You will have the freedom to manage your own diary, territory and sales strategy, with the operational support of an established European transport business behind you.

European Transport Business Development Manager Responsibilities

• Proactively identify and target new customers requiring European road freight solutions.
• Understand customers' European transport requirements and present commercially viable solutions.
• Spend the majority of your time out on the road visiting prospects and winning new business.
• Identify opportunities across FTL, LTL, groupage and other European transport services.
• Generate new leads through cold calling, networking, referrals, LinkedIn and face-to-face prospecting.
• Arrange and conduct customer meetings and presentations.
• Develop relationships with decision-makers across logistics, supply chain, transport and procurement.
• Prepare and negotiate quotations, rates and service proposals.
• Take ownership of the complete sales process from initial prospecting through to closing and onboarding.
• Consistently achieve agreed new-business and revenue targets.
• Build and maintain a strong sales pipeline and provide accurate forecasting.
• Attend industry events, networking opportunities and customer meetings to generate new opportunities.
• Develop a strong understanding of the European road freight market, competitors and customer requirements.
• Maintain accurate CRM records and regularly report on pipeline, activity and performance.

European Transport Business Development Manager Requirements

• Proven experience in European road freight sales / business development.
• A strong track record of winning new business.
• Existing contacts within UK manufacturing, retail, distribution, logistics or supply chain sectors.
• Experience selling European FTL, LTL, groupage or related transport solutions.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and closing skills.
• The ability to cold call, prospect and open new doors.
• A strong commercial understanding of transport pricing and margins.
• A self-motivated approach with the discipline to work independently from the road.
• A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively to meet prospective customers.

• Gets motivated by winning new customers.
• Enjoys being out meeting prospects rather than sitting behind a desk.
• Has a genuine network and understanding of the European transport market.
