Home Based | Paid Door-to-Door Travel | Company Van | £12-15k Potential Annual Overtime
Are you an electrically or mechanically biased Maintenance Engineer looking to move into a field-based role? This opportunity could suit an apprentice-trained engineer with 3–5 years’ hands-on maintenance experience who wants more variety, travel and the chance to develop specialist skills.
Samuel Frank is recruiting a Field Service Engineer for an established engineering business supplying and maintaining specialist equipment. You will cover a regional patch across the South West and southern England, with full product and Gas Safe training provided.
The role
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (approximately 70%) and reactive breakdown work (approximately 30%) at customer sites.
- Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults on industrial equipment, including motors and associated mechanical systems.
- Complete inspections, service reports and recommendations for remedial work.
- Travel directly from home to customer sites, initially shadowing experienced engineers during your training period.
- Work independently once trained, supported by an established field service and technical support team.
What we’re looking for
- Around 3–5 years’ practical engineering maintenance experience, ideally gained in manufacturing, industrial maintenance or a similar environment.
- An engineering qualification to Level 2 or equivalent practical experience; apprentice-trained candidates are particularly welcome.
- A sound electrical or mechanical background with some exposure to the other discipline.
- Practical fault-finding skills, a willingness to learn and confidence dealing with customers.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the region.
- Previous field service experience is not essential. Ex-forces engineers and those with HVAC, airflow, industrial ovens, furnaces or thermal equipment experience are also of interest.
Salary and benefits
- Basic salary £34,500–£41,500 depending on experience.
- Potential to earn approximately £12,000–£15,000 extra annually through overtime, depending on hours worked; overtime is not guaranteed.
- 40-hour contracted week with all travel time paid from the moment you leave home.
- Weekday overtime paid at time and a third, with enhanced rates for weekend and bank holiday work.
- Company van kept at home for business use only, plus tools, tablet, phone and PPE.
- Company credit card for authorised work expenses.
- Structured training including Gas Safe training, with scope to progress into the next engineering salary band of £41,500–£47,500 as skills and experience develop.
Location
The patch broadly covers the triangle between Birmingham, London and Exeter. Suitable locations include Bristol, Bath, Swindon, Oxford, Reading, Salisbury, Winchester, Portsmouth, Bournemouth, Stratford-upon-Avon, Worcester, Droitwich, Banbury and Bletchley, as well as surrounding areas. You will be home based and will not need to report to head office each morning. Some overnight stays will be required, although engineers are currently typically home most nights.
