BRC are working closely with a leading organisation in the social housing sector to recruit an experienced Fire Safety Team Leader. This is an excellent opportunity for a fire safety professional with strong team management, compliance and project management experience to play a key role in delivering a high-quality fire safety service across a large housing portfolio.
 
This role involves leading a team of Fire Safety Technicians and Electrical Engineers, ensuring statutory fire safety requirements are met, managing fire risk assessment programmes, overseeing inspections and contractors, and supporting the delivery of fire safety improvement projects.
 
Duties:

• Manage a team of Fire Safety Technicians and Fire Safety Electrical Engineers, ensuring effective performance and delivery against agreed targets.
• Support the Fire Safety Manager in ensuring compliance with statutory fire safety duties and responsibilities as a landlord.
• Manage an annual budget of approximately £600,000 and contribute to future budget planning for fire safety activities.
• Deputise for the Fire Safety Manager during periods of absence.
• Manage the Fire Risk Assessment programme, ensuring assessments are completed within defined timescales.
• Facilitate access to properties and premises to support the completion of Fire Risk Assessments.
• Review and validate fire safety actions and significant findings arising from Fire Risk Assessments.
• Allocate remedial actions to internal colleagues or external contractors and monitor progress through to completion.
• Ensure all fire safety documentation is accurately recorded and maintained in line with legislation and organisational policy.
• Manage escalations relating to fire safety actions where appropriate.
• Ensure Fire Engineers are engaged where technical advice or supporting rationale is required for significant deviations from risk assessments.
• Develop and maintain a Fire Door database to capture risk-based inspection programmes and associated actions.
• Manage and oversee fire safety inspection programmes, including fire door inspections, emergency lighting, fire detection and alarm testing.
• Produce clear and accurate reports on inspection programmes and fire safety compliance.
• Support the development and implementation of fire strategies across the organisation's premises.
• Ensure fire strategies are appropriately stored and relevant information is communicated to customers and stakeholders.
• Research and develop specifications for fire safety improvement projects.
• Provide technical assurance to other teams to ensure fire safety specifications meet functional, aesthetic and legislative requirements.
• Develop consultant and contractor briefing documents and specifications to support procurement activities.
• Manage one-off fire safety projects and cyclical fire safety maintenance programmes using appropriate project management techniques.
• Establish and chair contractor meetings, ensuring actions are clearly recorded, allocated and followed through.
• Contribute to the development and review of fire safety policies, processes and operational procedures.
• Ensure fire safety compliance activities are coordinated, effective and efficient.
• Manage the fire safety compliance database, ensuring information is accurate and up to date.
• Engage with relevant stakeholders and provide performance information and management reports.
• Develop strong working relationships across the organisation and with external partners.
• Work collaboratively to ensure a coordinated and effective fire safety service.
• Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with relevant Health & Safety policies and procedures.
• Undertake any other reasonable duties as required.

Requirements:

• Proven experience working within a fire safety compliance environment, ideally within social housing or a similar setting.
• Experience managing or leading a team, with the ability to support colleagues and drive performance.
• Experience reviewing Fire Risk Assessments and allocating and monitoring remedial actions.
• Strong understanding and practical application of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
• Experience managing fire safety compliance programmes and inspection regimes.
• Knowledge of fire safety legislation, regulations and relevant industry guidance.
• Experience managing contractors and external consultants.
• Experience developing specifications and briefing documents for fire safety works.
• Project management experience, ideally within a property, housing or construction environment.
• Strong budget management skills and experience monitoring expenditure.
• Experience developing and producing management information and performance reports.
• Excellent IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office and relevant compliance databases.
• Strong data analysis and reporting skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
• Excellent organisational, planning and coordination skills, with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to manage conflicting priorities and work effectively in a high-pressure environment.
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, contractors and other stakeholders.
• Relevant professional qualification, such as:
  • NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety
  • Specialist Fire Prevention Course
  • HNC/HND Fire Safety Engineering
  • Level 4 Certificate in Fire Safety Risk Assessing/Auditing
  • Or an equivalent qualification.
• Full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle covered by business insurance.
