Freelance Site Engineer - Setting Out - Nuclear Civils

Location: West Cumbria / Whitehaven

Rate: £400-£450 per day, depending on experience and equipment supplied

Contract: Initial six week freelance assignment with potential follow on work

Start: Anticipated mid to late October

Hours: Monday to Friday, approximately 7:00am-7:00pm

300 North is recruiting an experienced freelance Site Engineer / Setting Out Engineer to support a specialist civil engineering package at a major nuclear licensed site in West Cumbria.

The initial project involves the construction of an approximately 4.25 metre deep shaft using a caisson method. The anticipated initial programme is six weeks, with further shaft, tunnelling and associated civil engineering packages expected subject to the successful delivery of the first phase.

This is a hands on site engineering position focused on setting out, surveying, dimensional control, quality assurance and maintaining the detailed records required within a highly regulated nuclear environment.

Previous experience working at Sellafield or on another nuclear licensed site would be advantageous but is not essential. However, the successful engineer must be willing and able to complete all required nuclear site access, security, medical, drug and alcohol screening and onboarding processes.

Responsibilities

The Site Engineer will be responsible for:

Required Experience

Applicants should have:

Experience involving shafts, caissons, tunnelling, deep drainage, confined structures, water infrastructure or similar specialist civils would be particularly relevant.

An HNC, HND, degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering or a related discipline would be beneficial.

Nuclear Site Requirements

The successful applicant must be willing and able to complete the site's required onboarding and access procedures. These may include:

Any appointment will remain subject to successfully completing the required checks and being approved for access to the site.

Equipment

Applications are welcome from engineers who:

The agreed rate will reflect the individual's experience, capability and the equipment included. Applicants supplying their own equipment must be able to provide details of the equipment, software, calibration status and applicable insurance.

Rate and Contract

The anticipated rate is £400-£450 per day, subject to experience, equipment supplied, payment route and final agreement.

The initial assignment is expected to last approximately six weeks. Further shaft, tunnelling and civil engineering packages are anticipated, creating the potential for continuity beyond the first project, although this cannot yet be guaranteed.

The final contractual and IR35 position is currently being confirmed and will be explained before any formal representation or acceptance.
