Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) is one of the very best colleges in the country. In October 2024 we became the first and only further education provider in England to achieve a full set of outstanding grades in consecutive Ofsted Inspections. This includes recognition of our strong contribution towards meeting Local Skills Needs under the latest version of the Education Inspection Framework (EIF).
The group is currently home to a population of over 6,500 full-time students with around 2,000 adult learners and students on higher education programmes. We have over 1,500 apprentices where we work with over 850 individual employers. Our Sixth Form provision has a reputation for high academic achievement and excellence
Based at our Stafford Campus, you will work as part of the College’s security team to help maintain a friendly, safe and secure learning environment. You will be a visible and approachable point of contact for learners, staff and visitors, offering assistance and guidance and ensuring everyone receives a positive welcome. Your duties will include regular patrols of the buildings and grounds, engaging with the College community, responding to requests for assistance and addressing unacceptable behaviour calmly and professionally.
We are looking for someone who is approachable, observant and dependable, with excellent communication skills and sound judgement. You will be able to build trust and positive relationships with young people while maintaining clear boundaries and responding confidently to challenging behaviour. An understanding of security issues within a Further Education setting is important, ideally supported by relevant practical experience, including working with young people. You will be comfortable using your initiative, assessing situations and knowing when to seek support. The role involves regular walking patrols and practical duties, including receiving and distributing parcels. A good standard of general education is desirable, and qualifications in security or customer care would be useful; however, your interpersonal skills, professionalism and ability to work effectively as part of a team are our main priorities.
You will work a shift pattern covering the College day, including evenings up to 9pm, with some occasional weekend working. Stafford Campus will be your normal place of work. As a Group Security Officer, you may also be asked to support other Group campuses on rare occasions, such as for events, absence cover or emergencies.
What’s in it for you?
The college offers an excellent benefits package which includes:
• Local Government Pension Scheme
• Excellent Training and Development Opportunities
• 24 Days annual leave, rising to 30 following 5 years’ service, plus Bank Holidays and Christmas closure period.
• Health-related benefits including Subsidised Health Scheme
