Head of Technical Infrastructures - Racing Systems
Location & Contract
- Location: Biggin Hill, South East London

Travel & Working Pattern
- Travel: 3-4 Formula 1 race events per year
- Working Pattern: Includes Formula 1 race‑weekend working, with time off in lieu
Role Requirement (Essential)
Must possess deep, practical knowledge of Formula 1 operations, race strategy, and data visualisation, with the ability to interpret, present, and govern racing data at the highest technical and regulatory level.
Role Purpose
Provide strategic and operational leadership of Formula 1's core racing technical infrastructures, ensuring the reliable delivery of timekeeping, data delivery, analysis, and technical event operations across all Formula 1 events and platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the Timekeeping, Data Delivery, and Data Analysis functions, driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.
- Define and deliver the technical and analytical roadmap for Racing Systems aligned to Formula 1's strategic objectives.
- Ensure reliable, compliant, high‑quality real‑time and post‑event data products for internal and external stakeholders.
- Act as senior technical authority at events, accountable for ETC & MTC gallery operations and system performance.
- Oversee development of AI‑driven diagnostic and predictive tools in collaboration with Innovation and Software teams.
- Provide authoritative interpretation of racing data in line with sporting regulations and operational procedures.
- Lead cross‑department collaboration with Race Operations, Broadcast, Digital, R&D, and IT.
- Own departmental budgets, workforce planning, and business cases for new initiatives.
- Mentor and develop technical leaders and teams, ensuring high performance in pressure‑critical environments.
Key Requirements
- Extensive Formula 1 operational experience (race engineering, performance analysis, race strategy, or equivalent).
- Proven leadership of medium‑sized technical teams in live, event‑critical environments.
- Advanced data analysis and visualisation capability (SQL, MATLAB, Excel, telemetry tools).
- Strong understanding of motorsport timing systems, race operations, and regulatory frameworks.
- Ability to make accurate decisions under pressure.
- Strong senior‑level stakeholder management and communication skills.
Desirable
- Engineering degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience delivering automated reporting, analytics platforms, or AI‑enabled operational tools.
- Previous Systems Manager or senior trackside operational responsibility.
