Manufacturing Engineer – £45,000 to £55,000
An established engineering organisation with a long history of delivering high‑integrity, complex mechanical systems is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support the development and optimisation of a major vehicle assembly programme. The business operates across advanced manufacturing, engineering, project delivery and technical support functions, and is continuing to expand its capability with skilled, motivated professionals.
About the Role
The Manufacturing Engineer will play a key role in developing the Assembly, Integration and Test (AIT) processes for a large‑scale vehicle manufacturing programme. Working as part of an experienced engineering team, you will help shape the future concept of production, ensuring robust, efficient and repeatable processes.
Key responsibilities include:
- AIT process development — transferring production knowledge from existing programmes into a UK manufacturing environment.
- Shopfloor engineering support — acting as the focal point for tooling, process knowledge and operator guidance.
- Structured problem solving — leading root‑cause investigations, process improvements and ramp‑up activities.
- Continuous improvement — driving lean principles, line balancing and waste reduction.
- Design for Manufacture input — supporting engineering changes and ensuring manufacturability, quality and safety.
- Standard Operations creation — producing SOPs, work balance charts and process documentation.
- Cross‑functional coordination — supporting project management and production teams throughout assembly phases.
- Ensuring compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety and manufacturing quality standards.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Degree, HND or Advanced Apprenticeship in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
- Strong technical background within complex engineering environments.
- Proven track record in manufacturing excellence and process optimisation.
- Experience working within industrial or technical production settings.
- Understanding of Engineering Change processes.
- Ability to structure BOMs from drawing through to manufacture.
- Competent with standard office software and familiar with MES systems.
- Experience leading practical problem‑solving activities.
Desirable Experience
- Planning experience using SAP.
- Knowledge of vehicle build programmes.
