Manufacturing Engineering Manager
Location: South Yorkshire

An established heavy engineering manufacturer is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Manager to lead manufacturing engineering activities across complex machine shop operations.
Role Overview
- Provide strategic and technical leadership within a high‑value machining environment
- Deliver manufacturing excellence to quality, cost, and schedule targets
- Act as technical authority for manufacturing engineering and machining processes
- Lead and develop Manufacturing and Tooling Engineers
- Support long‑term capital investment and machine shop upgrade programmes
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all products entering manufacture are fully defined and production‑ready
- Plan work through machine shops with correct tooling, equipment, and capacity
- Own manufacturing engineering budgets and resource planning
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives aligned to business objectives
- Support controlled introduction of new products and processes
- Work closely with Production, Quality, HS&E, and Engineering teams
- Engage with customers where required on delivery and performance metrics
- Ensure team capability, SQEP coverage, and performance management
People & Development
- Own training and development plans across manufacturing engineering
- Oversee apprenticeship scope, structure, and capability development
- Align team objectives to business values and long‑term needs
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience leading engineering teams in a manufacturing environment
- Strong background in manufacturing engineering and machining
- Experience producing high‑value, high‑integrity components
- Exposure to low‑ and high‑volume manufacturing
- Background in highly regulated industries (e.g. Oil & Gas, Aerospace, Defence)
- Experience with CAD/CAM and PLM systems
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills
