Job Description - Engineering Supervisor / Senior Maintenance Engineer

Location: Greater Manchester
Salary: £60,000 per annum
Hours: 50 hours per week
Shift Pattern: 5 x 10-hour shifts
Reporting To: Engineering Manager

The Role

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on engineering professional to support the Engineering Manager in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all plant and production equipment.

Working within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, you will play a key role in reducing downtime, driving preventative maintenance activities, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring engineering standards are maintained across the site.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Engineering Manager in the day-to-day running of the engineering and maintenance function.
• Ensure all plant machinery and equipment are maintained to maximise uptime and operational efficiency.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults effectively.
• Lead and support engineering projects, installations, upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Promote and maintain a strong health and safety culture across the site.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, engineering standards, and statutory regulations.
• Assist with contractor management and supervision of engineering activities.
• Identify root causes of recurring equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and engineering documentation.
• Work closely with production and operational teams to minimise disruption and improve plant performance.
• Support training, mentoring, and development of engineering team members where required.

Skills & Experience Required



Essential

• Proven engineering experience within a manufacturing, industrial, or process environment.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic capabilities.
• Experience with preventative and reactive maintenance systems.
• Sound understanding of health and safety legislation and engineering best practices.
• Ability to work independently and make effective decisions under pressure.
• Excellent communication, planning, and organisational skills.
• Strong problem-solving ability and a continuous improvement mindset.

Desirable

• Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering qualification (Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, HNC, HND, or equivalent).
• Experience within polymer, rubber, plastics, chemical, automotive, or other process manufacturing environments.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
• Previous supervisory or team leadership experience.
