Mechanical Maintenance Facilities Officer



Central London | Higher Education Sector | Full-Time | £43,000-£46,000 per annum

I am currently working with my client, within the Higher Education Sector, to recruit an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Facilities Officer for their Central London campus.

Working alongside the Maintenance Shift Leaders and reporting to the Estates Helpdesk & Maintenance Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining and improving the mechanical infrastructure across the estate. You will work a rotating Monday to Friday shift pattern covering early and late shifts to ensure maintenance support is provided throughout the day.

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must have:

• An NVQ or City & Guilds qualification in Mechanical Engineering, or
• A completed Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship, or
• A Bachelor's degree in a Mechanical Engineering discipline
• Recent and substantial hands-on experience using a Building Management System (BMS)
• Strong experience within a maintenance environment
• Experience working within customer-facing operational environments
• Good communication skills and the ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads effectively

Please note: Recent BMS experience is considered essential for this position and will be a key requirement during the selection process.

The Role

You will be responsible for carrying out mechanical maintenance activities across the campus, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of building services while delivering a high standard of customer service.

Mechanical Maintenance & Building Services

• Complete mechanical maintenance activities around campus, from responding to breakdowns to completing planned maintenance work
• Undertake planned preventative maintenance inspections and associated works
• Utilise the organisation's Building Management System (BMS) to identify and rectify issues
• Maintain and repair mechanical equipment and associated building services
• Ensure all works are completed to a high standard and within required timescales
• Deliver consistently high-quality workmanship
• Complete and sign off work requests within agreed service levels

Contractor & Stakeholder Management

• Act as a point of contact for mechanical-related contractors
• Liaise with contractors whilst on site, ensuring works are completed to a high standard
• Exchange information with both internal and external contractors
• Liaise with stakeholders in advance to arrange suitable access for maintenance activities
• Work independently whilst maintaining excellent communication with colleagues and customers

Reporting & Compliance

• Report daily progress and completed works to the Maintenance Shift Leader and Estates Helpdesk
• Keep all work order sheets and maintenance records up to date
• Use CAFM and other record-keeping systems to accurately record labour, materials, and completed works
• Operate manual and computerised record-keeping systems
• Ensure compliance with departmental procedures and maintenance standards

Team Support & Continuous Improvement

• Provide support to colleagues across the wider maintenance team
• Offer practical advice and guidance to less experienced team members when required
• Contribute to a collaborative and customer-focused working environment
• Proactively identify opportunities to improve processes and working practices
• Champion positive change and support continuous improvement initiatives across the department

Workshop & General Maintenance Responsibilities

• Maintain clean, safe, and organised workshop and storage areas
• Assist with stock control and materials management
• Support minor works and reactive repairs where required
• Demonstrate flexibility in supporting wider maintenance activities across the estate
