Mechanical Maintenance Technician - Rail

Location: Mobile role covering London & Bristol (Company van provided + fuel)
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off (2 days, 2 nights)

• Nights: 20:00 - 08:00 (including travel)
• 12-hour shifts

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join our Rail team. This is a mobile role supporting multiple sites across London and Bristol, working on advanced rail power systems and associated equipment.

Reporting to the Site Team Leader or Supervisor, you will play a key role in delivering maintenance, fault finding, and repair activities, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with technical and contractual standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative and corrective maintenance in line with schedules, manuals, and contractual requirements
• Perform fault finding, diagnostics, and repairs using technical drawings and specialist tools
• Complete all maintenance documentation accurately for internal and client records
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across operations
• Attend customer meetings where required to sign off completed works
• Maintain high standards of health, safety, quality, and environmental compliance (HSQE)
• Ensure work areas and equipment are kept clean, safe, and organised
• Participate in ongoing training to maintain and develop technical competency
• Work flexibly within a 24/7 shift rota
• Travel between sites as part of a mobile engineering role
• Accurately report parts used to support stock control processes
• Use company IT systems for reporting, communication, and diagnostics

Requirements

• Background in mechanical or electrical engineering
• NVQ Level 3 in Engineering (or equivalent)
• Strong commitment to health and safety standards
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation
• Basic IT skills (e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Full UK driving licence
