Network Engineer - Communications

A leading engineering and communications technology organisation is seeking an experienced Network Engineer to support the maintenance, optimisation, and security of both internal and customer-facing networks. This position offers the opportunity to work across complex, high- availability environments spanning satellite communications, maritime technology, defence, and enterprise infrastructure. The successful candidate will play a key role in network design, deployment, troubleshooting, security, and ongoing support across multi-site and customer environments. Key Responsibilities:
Network Engineering & Technical Support
• Act as a technical lead for network design, configuration, and management
• Support the full lifecycle of internal and customer network infrastructure
• Design, build, test, commission, and maintain secure networks
• Troubleshoot complex routing, firewall, latency, and performance-related issues
• Produce and maintain network documentation, schematics, configuration records, and support guides
• Support network integrity, resilience, and cyber security across operational environments
• Collaborate with engineering, IT, infrastructure, and customer support teams Technical Environment
Strong experience across several of the following technologies is required:
• Fortinet FortiGate Firewalls, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer
• Cisco Routers (29xx / 4xxx / 83xx series, IOS-XE)
• Cisco Switches (29xx / 93xx series)
• VPNs, IPSEC, BGP, OSPF, QoS, VOIP, IP SLA
• Linux systems
• Cryptographic/network security technologies
Additional desirable experience includes:
• MPLS
• 802.1x
• Multicast networking
• Docker
• Python scripting
• Satellite communications or maritime communications environments
Skills & Experience
• Minimum 5 years’ experience designing and supporting enterprise or operational networks
• Industry certifications such as FCSS/FCP, CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent
• Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding capability across complex network environments
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
• Strong documentation and planning skills with high attention to detail
• Telecommunications, satcom, defence, or maritime industry experience highly advantageous
• Must be eligible for, or able to obtain, UK DV Security Clearance

This role requires eligibility for UK Security Clearance. Successful candidates must provide proof of identity, employment history, right to work in the UK, and typically demonstrate a minimum of five years’ UK residency.
