Outdoor Learning Assistant (SEND/SEMH) - North Bristol
Location: North Bristol
Start Dates: September 2026
Daily Rate: £95 - £125 (dependent on experience)
Contract: Long-term, full-time
We are currently recruiting for enthusiastic and resilient Outdoor Learning Assistants to join a specialist SEND provision in North Bristol, with roles starting in September 2026. These are long-term opportunities for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people through hands-on, outdoor education.
About the Role
As an Outdoor Learning Assistant, you will support pupils in a practical, outdoor-based learning environment, helping them engage with education through activities such as nature-based learning, teamwork exercises, and vocational-style tasks. You will play a key role in promoting confidence, independence, and emotional wellbeing.
The Provision
This specialist setting prides itself on a strong ethos of positive praise and encouragement, offering a nurturing and structured environment for pupils who thrive outside of traditional classroom settings. The provision focuses on relationship-building, consistency, and holistic development.
Key Responsibilities
- Support students in outdoor and practical learning activities
- Provide both 1:1 and small group support
- Encourage engagement, teamwork, and resilience
- Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour
- Work closely with teaching staff to monitor progress
- Promote a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment
About the Pupils / Job Specification
The provision supports pupils with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, which can present in different ways, including:
- Difficulties with mood, such as anxiety or depression
- Behavioural challenges, including oppositional defiance and, in some cases, aggression
- Self-harm, substance misuse, eating disorders, or medically unexplained physical symptoms
Some pupils may also have diagnosed conditions such as:
- ADD or ADHD or SEMH
- Attachment disorders
- Generalised anxiety disorders
A calm, patient, and resilient approach is essential, along with the ability to use positive reinforcement and praise to build trust and engagement.

- Experience working with SEND, SEMH, or in outdoor/alternative education settings
- Passion for outdoor learning and non-traditional education
- Strong behaviour management and interpersonal skills
- Resilient, proactive, and adaptable attitude
