Platform Engineer

Rate: 598

Clearance required: MOD SC (ideally needs SC in place already or SC Eligible)

Location: Portsmouth (Hybrid - 2 days every other week on site, plus remote working)

DevSecOps (continuous integration, automation, security scanning); Scripting: Bash/Linux/Python; Automation and containerisation; Solution based mindset; DevOps culture; Python; Apache Kafka; Kubernetes; Docker; CICD; Secure development in air gapped environments; AI/ML model integration experience.

Role scope

• Primary focus: Is this role mainly hands-on engineering (CI/CD, Kubernetes, automation), or does it lean more towards an architectural/lead position (SFIA 6)? 60/40 leading the thought and supporting the team, with then getting your hands dirty to deliver it.
• Migration / platform maturity: Is the focus on building new platforms, modernizing existing ones, or maintaining current environments? Modernising existing platforms and manitnaining current environments. There are two environments both in different stages of maturity.

Technical environment

• Cloud environment: Which platform is primarily used (AWS, Azure, hybrid)? Hybrid
• DevSecOps expectations: How deep is the security element (e.g. security tooling, compliance requirements, air-gapped constraints)? Compliance requirements, air-gapped constraints, ITAR and special access compartment considerations.

• AI/ML integration: Is this a core requirement or more of a nice-to-have? Core

Clearance

• For SC clearance: is any active SC acceptable, or is there a preference for MOD-sponsored clearance / MOD experience? Must be MOD sponsored SC, sole UK national
• Does the SC need to have been used in the last 12 months, or is being active sufficient? Active should be sufficient
