Our Client is growing at 20% year-on-year and employs over 125 MEP engineers, making them one of the UK's leading specialists in the design and delivery of district energy and low-carbon energy infrastructure.

They partner with hospitals, universities, residential developers, local authorities, commercial and industrial organisations to deliver major decarbonisation projects across the UK. Their portfolio includes energy centres, district heating networks, large-scale heat pump installations and other innovative low-carbon solutions that directly support the UK's Net Zero ambitions.

Following continued investment and a strong pipeline of secured work, they are expanding their engineering teams and are looking to appoint a Principal Electrical Design Engineer.

About the Role

As a Principal Electrical Design Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across the design and delivery of complex electrical systems for district energy and energy centre projects, taking schemes from concept through to detailed design.

Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will lead the electrical design of low-carbon infrastructure projects, ensuring technical excellence, compliance and efficient project delivery across a diverse portfolio.

Projects typically include:

• Energy centres
• District heating networks
• CHP and trigeneration plants
• Large-scale heat pump installations
• LV electrical distribution systems

The role combines hands-on electrical design with client engagement, technical leadership, site surveys, design reviews and mentoring of junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design from concept through to detailed design.
• Produce LV distribution designs, single line diagrams and electrical specifications.
• Carry out electrical calculations, cable sizing and protection coordination.
• Specify switchgear, transformers, generators and associated electrical plant.
• Develop compliant, cost-effective design solutions from client requirements.
• Coordinate with mechanical, civil and C&I engineers.
• Attend client meetings, design reviews and site surveys.
• Ensure compliance with BS 7671, CDM Regulations and company standards.
• Resolve technical design issues and support project delivery.
• Mentor and develop junior electrical engineers.

What You'll Need

• 6+ years electrical design experience within Building Services, Energy Centres, District Energy, Power Generation or Renewable Energy.
• Strong knowledge of LV electrical distribution and power systems.
• Experience with AutoCAD and producing electrical design documentation.
• Good understanding of BS 7671 and relevant electrical standards.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Full UK manual driving licence.
