Job Description:

Role Purpose

We are seeking an experienced and ambitious Principal Design Engineer to join a growing Building Services consultancy. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior-level engineer looking to lead the design and delivery of complex projects across commercial, residential, healthcare, education, industrial, and mixed-use developments.

You will play a key role in managing project teams, overseeing technical design delivery, developing client relationships, and mentoring engineers while ensuring projects are delivered to the highest standards.



Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of building services projects from concept through to completion.
• Manage multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinate with architects, contractors, and external stakeholders.
• Produce and review detailed engineering calculations, specifications, reports, and technical drawings.
• Provide technical leadership across HVAC, public health, electrical, or mechanical building services disciplines.
• Ensure compliance with current regulations, British Standards, and industry best practices.
• Attend client meetings and act as a technical lead throughout project lifecycles.
• Support business development activities, including fee proposals, presentations, and bid submissions.
• Manage project resources, budgets, and programme delivery.
• Mentor and develop junior and intermediate engineers.
• Contribute to sustainability initiatives, low-carbon design strategies, and net-zero projects.

Requirements

• Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or actively working towards Chartership.
• Extensive building services design experience within a consultancy environment.
• Strong technical knowledge of UK building regulations and relevant design standards.
• Proven experience leading projects and managing client relationships.
• Proficiency with industry-standard design software such as Amtech, Dialux, Relux, IES, Hevacomp, Revit, AutoCAD, or similar.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver within programme deadlines.
