Job Description:
OXFIDA (formerly Aioi R&D Lab – Oxford) is an AI R&D company based in Oxford, on a mission to harness AI to understand, predict, and manage risk, helping build a safer, more resilient society.
We sit at the intersection of academia and industry, working with Oxford's professors and researchers alongside commercial partners, and combining that expertise with real-world risk data at global scale to turn frontier research into AI that actually ships rather than just gets published.
Our work spans AI for insurance underwriting and claims, AI risk governance, privacy-preserving technologies for agentic AI, and quantum optimisation, alongside partnership projects on nature and supply chains and the emerging challenges nobody's solved yet.
We build AI products and solutions for insurers, businesses, and public-sector organisations worldwide, and run innovative research projects that push these technologies further, helping people make better decisions in an uncertain world.
See risk clearly.
We're looking for a Product Manager to join our EU-region product team, owning AI products for the insurance industry from discovery through to launch and commercial growth, connecting customer needs, business priorities and technical possibilities.
Your initial focus will be two products at different stages of maturity: one already live with a customer and being extended with further functionality, and one still in early-stage discovery with a strategic partner. You'll also take on light-touch ownership of a small number of bespoke applications already in production with a single UK customer. As our EU product portfolio grows, you may take on further products over time.
We're looking for dynamic, driven professionals to help us deliver on this ambition. You'll need strong product credentials, a proactive approach and the confidence to bring clarity and structure to products at very different stages of their lifecycle. Beyond your own products, you'll help strengthen product management practice across the wider team, sharing relevant experience and best practice with other product managers to support more consistent, effective ways of working.
If you'd like to help shape the future of our AI products for insurance and share in our success, we'd love to hear from you.
Responsibilities
- Own the product vision, strategy, positioning and roadmap for your assigned products, grounded in customer needs, market opportunity and OXFIDA's commercial objectives - including identifying where existing products could extend to new customers, segments or markets.
- Lead product discovery, validation and pilot/proof-of-concept work with customers and partners, translating insight into clear opportunities and prioritised requirements, and capturing learning to inform scalable product decisions rather than one-off customisation.
- Partner closely with engineering to take products from concept through to launch and continuous improvement, owning the product backlog, prioritisation decisions, success measures and acceptance criteria throughout.
- Balance bespoke customer or partner requests against the longer-term goal of building products that can scale beyond a single customer or market.
- Maintain light-touch ownership of a small portfolio of bespoke, already-in-production applications for an existing customer, triaging and coordinating any ad hoc feature requests or hosting/infrastructure updates as they arise.
- Develop the commercial proposition for your products: target segments, pricing, packaging and go-to-market approach, and enable sales and client-facing teams with the demonstrations, collateral and training needed to represent them effectively.
- Work with Legal, Compliance, Security, Actuarial and other governance stakeholders to ensure products meet regulatory, ethical and operational expectations, particularly given the sensitivity of insurance customer and partner data.
- Build strong working relationships across engineering, Head of Project Management, the wider Product function and external partners, keeping everyone aligned on product direction and progress.
- Act as a source of product management expertise for the wider team, contributing to and sharing consistent templates, tools and best practice to support other product managers.
Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- Substantial experience working within a product team, having owned or significantly contributed to products end-to-end, ideally as a Product Manager.
- Proven experience taking products from 0 to 1, including managing releases and monitoring post-launch metrics to guide iteration.
- Experience across some or all of the product lifecycle: discovery, requirements and backlog management, working closely with engineers, and iterating post-launch.
- Some experience of managing or contributing to AI or ML-enabled products, and an interest in bringing product management best practice into a growing team.
- Comfortable working with ambiguity, and happy operating in an environment where product processes are still being established.
- Good communication and stakeholder management skills, able to work confidently with engineers, internal stakeholders and external partner organisations.
Desirable
- Experience in insurance or other financial services.
- Experience with B2B, enterprise software, or complex customer implementations.
- Interest or experience in fraud detection, anomaly detection or other risk-related domains.
- Familiarity with agile product development methods and tools such as Jira, Confluence or equivalent.
Qualifications
- A degree in Business, Technology, Engineering, Design or a related discipline is desirable, but equivalent product experience is equally valued.
Skills / Competencies
- A research-minded, evidence-based approach, using customer, partner and market insight to distinguish genuinely scalable product opportunities from one-off requests.
- Comfortable working with ambiguity and operating with a high degree of autonomy in a fast-growing environment where product practices are still being established and confident helping shape them and sharing best practice with colleagues.
- Collaborative but accountable, with a strong sense of ownership for product outcomes rather than simply delivery of features.
