Project Engineer – Fire & Security

Location: Regional Field-Based / Sites Nationwide
Salary: £35,000 - £48,000 Negotiable Dependent on experience

The Opportunity

Due to an expanding pipeline of Tier-1 construction projects, a highly skilled Project Engineer is required to join their engineering delivery team.

Bridging the gap between hands-on installation and project management, the successful Project Engineer will take complete technical ownership of major multi-discipline systems on site. The Project Engineer will oversee installation standards, solve complex technical integration issues, and handle final commissioning phases, all while keeping a sharp eye on project profitability and variations.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Delivery: Leading the on-site engineering phase of projects, ensuring fire alarms (BS 5839), AOV/smoke ventilation, CCTV, and access control systems are installed and integrated to exact specifications.
• Commercial & Variations Management: Maintaining strong commercial awareness on site by identifying, documenting, and reporting any site variations or deviations from the original scope of works.
• Subcontractor & Team Leadership: Overseeing and auditing the quality of work delivered by junior technicians and electrical subcontractors to ensure safety benchmarks are hit.
• Commissioning & Handover: Executing final commissioning, system programming, and client handovers, ensuring all technical documentation is flawlessly completed.
• Main Contractor Liaison: Working closely with the internal management team and the main contractor's site staff to troubleshoot engineering bottlenecks and keep the project moving on schedule.

What the Ideal Candidate Brings

• Track Record: A proven track record as a Project Engineer, Lead Engineer, or Senior Installation Technician on large residential, new build commercial, or educational construction sites.
• Multi-Discipline Expertise: Strong hands-on technical proficiency across both Fire (addressable systems, AOV) and Security (IP CCTV, networked access control, intruder systems).
• Commercial Mindset: A sharp commercial understanding of project margins, with the ability to spot when site conditions force a change in design and flag variations before executing the work.
• Qualifications & Credentials: Valid CSCS Gold/Black Card (or equivalent), a Level 3 Fire Alarm qualification (FIA/C&G) is highly desirable, and SSSTS or SMSTS is a major advantage.
• Drive & Organization: The ability to read complex schematics, manage site diaries, and lead engineering delivery under strict construction program timelines as a dedicated Project Engineer.
