Quality Engineer salary: £41,000 – £45,300

Quality Engineer Overview:

✅ Act as the key quality contact for major OEM customers
✅ Lead complaints, 8D investigations and corrective actions through to closure
✅ Support PPAP, APQP, PFMEA, Control Plans and NPI activity
✅ Monitor PPM, scrap, rework and wider quality performance
✅ Work closely with Production, Engineering and Supply Chain on improvement activity

 

This Quality Engineer role is with an established manufacturing business supporting major OEM customers across demanding engineering sectors. The Quality Engineer will act as a key customer quality contact, taking ownership of complaints, corrective actions, audits, quality metrics and improvement activity while supporting NPI and customer-specific requirements.

This Quality Engineer position suits someone who is technically strong, comfortable dealing directly with customers and confident driving structured problem-solving across a manufacturing environment.

 

The Quality Engineer role

As Quality Engineer, you’ll be responsible for understanding customer quality expectations, investigating issues and ensuring effective corrective actions are implemented across the business. You’ll work closely with Production, Engineering, Supply Chain and suppliers to reduce repeat issues, improve customer PPM and strengthen overall quality performance.

The Quality Engineer will also support new product introduction through APQP and PPAP activity, ensuring process controls, documentation and customer requirements are in place before release.

 

Day-to-day responsibilities of a Quality Engineer

• Act as the primary quality contact for assigned customer accounts
• Lead customer complaint investigations using 8D, 5 Why and structured RCA methods
• Coordinate customer visits, audits and quality reviews
• Ensure corrective actions and customer responses are completed on time
• Support PPAP submissions and APQP activity for new product introduction
• Develop and maintain Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEAs and Control Plans
• Monitor customer PPM, scrap, rework and other quality KPIs
• Analyse trends and identify opportunities for quality improvement
• Support Layered Process Audits and internal process verification
• Work with Production and Engineering to reduce repeat quality issues
• Liaise with suppliers where issues relate to incoming materials or components
• Use SPC and other quality tools to support process control and improvement
• Help reduce Cost of Poor Quality through focused improvement actions

What they’re looking for - Quality Engineer

• At least 3 years’ experience within a manufacturing quality environment
• Experience leading customer complaints and corrective action activity
• Practical knowledge of 8D, 5 Why and Root Cause Analysis
• Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
• Internal process audit experience
• Strong customer-facing communication skills
• Confident dealing with challenging quality situations professionally
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
• Good Excel and quality reporting skills
• Comfortable working cross-functionally with Production, Engineering and Supply Chain

Desirable - Quality Engineer

• Knowledge of IATF 16949, ISO9001 or ISO14001
• Experience with PPAP, APQP, FMEA and Control Plans
• Understanding of SPC and MSA
• Auditor qualification or Lead Auditor training
• Background in fabrication, welding, machining, forming or metal finishing
• Previous experience supporting OEM or customer-specific quality requirements
