Quantity Surveyor – Highways Project

The Role

Our client, Taylor Woodrow, a leading infrastructure and civil engineering specialist, is seeking a talented Quantity Surveyor to join the team on a major highways project in Southend, Essex.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering essential infrastructure works while supporting the commercial success of the project.

You will be responsible for managing the commercial aspects of a project or section of a larger scheme, ensuring strong cost control, contract compliance, and value optimisation throughout the project lifecycle. This role will have a strong emphasis on subcontract management.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage commercial activities across the project, supporting the Project Manager and Commercial Lead
• Administer contracts with a strong focus on NEC (Option A preferred)
• Lead subcontract procurement, including tendering, evaluation, and appointment
• Prepare valuations, applications for payment, and final accounts
• Monitor project costs, forecasts, and cash flow to maximise financial performance
• Implement robust change control processes, ensuring recovery of all variations and compensation events
• Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities
• Produce accurate CVRs, reports, and forecasts
• Manage subcontractor accounts, payments, and contractual notices
• Work collaboratively with delivery teams to drive project success

About You

• Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering or highways projects
• Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts (Option A essential/preferred)
• Experience managing subcontractors and commercial processes end-to-end
• Solid understanding of cost control, forecasting, and reporting
• Ability to identify risks, manage change, and protect commercial position
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Ideally degree-qualified (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or a related field
