School Caretaker – September 2026

We are seeking a reliable, proactive and hardworking School Caretaker to join a friendly and welcoming school in Kingston upon Thames from September 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced caretaker or facilities professional who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean and secure learning environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the school premises are well maintained and fully operational for staff, pupils and visitors.

The Role

You will:

• Open and secure the school site each day, ensuring the premises remain safe and secure.

• Carry out routine maintenance, repairs and general DIY tasks across the school.

• Monitor the condition of the buildings and grounds, reporting and addressing maintenance issues where appropriate.

• Conduct regular health and safety checks, including fire alarm testing and site inspections.

• Assist with setting up rooms and equipment for assemblies, meetings and school events.

• Oversee deliveries, manage waste disposal and maintain the cleanliness of external areas.

• Liaise with external contractors and support planned maintenance works.

• Ensure the school site complies with health and safety regulations at all times.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant will have:

• Previous experience in a caretaker, site supervisor, facilities or maintenance role.

• Good practical maintenance and DIY skills.

• A sound understanding of health and safety procedures.

• The ability to work independently and manage a varied workload.

• Strong organisational and communication skills.

• A flexible, reliable and proactive approach to work.

• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
