SEMH Teaching Assistant - Secondary SEMH School

Are you passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Do you have experience working with vulnerable young people and want to make a genuine difference every day?
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist Secondary SEMH School in the Castlefield area of Manchester from September. This is a rewarding opportunity to support students who require additional emotional, behavioural, and academic support to achieve success both in and out of the classroom.
The Role
- Support students with SEMH needs on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
- Build strong, positive relationships with young people who may have experienced trauma or barriers to education.
- Assist teachers in delivering tailored learning activities and interventions.
- Support behaviour management strategies and promote positive engagement with learning.
- Encourage emotional regulation, social development, and independence.
- Help create a safe, structured, and nurturing environment for all students.
What We're Looking For
We welcome applications from candidates with experience in:
- SEMH or SEND schools.
- Alternative provision settings.
- Youth work.
- Mental health support services.
- Residential care.
- Behaviour mentoring.
- Support worker or key worker roles.
Team Teach training is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided for suitable candidates.
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Be calm, patient, and resilient under pressure.
- Have experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour or additional needs.
- Be able to build positive and professional relationships with students.
- Have a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
- Be committed to helping students overcome barriers and achieve positive outcomes.
