About the School
We are a specialist school in Sheffield dedicated to supporting children and young people with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic, committed, and skilled Teacher to join our team on a temporary basis until August 2027. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging lessons that meet the diverse needs of pupils with communication difficulties and autism.
You will create a positive and supportive classroom environment, implement personalised learning strategies, and contribute to the wider life of the school.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality lessons tailored to individual pupil needs.
- Develop and implement personalised learning programmes and targets.
- Support students' communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, and independence skills.
- Work closely with speech and language therapists, teaching assistants, and other professionals.
- Monitor and record pupil progress, providing regular feedback to parents and carers.
- Promote positive behaviour and wellbeing through consistent and supportive approaches.
- Contribute to annual reviews, EHCP processes, and multidisciplinary meetings where required.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Has experience working with pupils with Autism and/or Speech, Language and Communication Needs.
- Demonstrates excellent classroom management and differentiation skills.
- Has a strong understanding of inclusive teaching practices.
- Can build positive relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues.
- Is reflective, adaptable, and committed to continuous professional development.
Desirable
- Experience within a specialist or SEND setting.
- Knowledge of communication-focused approaches such as PECS, Makaton, AAC, or SCERTS.
- Experience of supporting pupils with complex communication needs.
- Understanding of trauma-informed and autism-friendly practice.
