Location: Islington, North London

Salary: £115–£125 per day

Salary is dependent on the candidates qualifications and experience.

Hours of work: Monday to Friday, starting at 8:00am

Teach Now is recruiting a SEN Learning Support Assistant for a supportive primary school in Islington. Starting in January 2027, youll join a small nurture provision supporting approximately eight children from Reception to Year 2 who are non-verbal or pre-verbal.

Alongside a teacher and two other Learning Support Assistants, youll help children develop communication, confidence and independence through meaningful interactions and play. Symbols, Makaton, sensory activities and messy play will all form part of your day.

Each morning begins in Breakfast Club, supporting pupils with and without SEN before moving into the nurture group. The schools values of kindness, respect, ambition, resilience and independence shape an environment where every child is valued.

Requirements:

You should bring relevant experience, skills or understanding in:

• Supporting children with SEN in Early Years or Key Stage 1.
  
• Engaging children who are non-verbal or pre-verbal.
  
• Using symbols, visual resources and Makaton to support communication.
  
• Supporting sensory learning, messy play and early language development.
  
• Helping children with toileting, personal care and eating sensitively.
  
• A calm, compassionate approach, strong teamwork and reliable availability from 8:00am, Monday to Friday, are essential.
  

Key Responsibilities:

• Build trusting relationships and respond to individual communication needs.
  
• Support learning through visual resources, signing and play-based activities.
  
• Encourage communication, participation and growing independence throughout daily routines.
  
• Provide respectful personal care and support with eating.
  
• Follow agreed approaches alongside the teacher and other LSAs.
  
• Help the team provide a welcoming, well-organised Breakfast Club.
