Senior Civil Design Engineer - Water
Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Design Engineer to join their growing Water team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer to play a key role in the delivery of civil engineering design solutions across a diverse portfolio of water and wastewater projects.
The successful candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality design deliverables, providing technical expertise throughout project lifecycles, and supporting the development of junior team members. Working closely with clients and multidisciplinary project teams, the Senior Civil Design Engineer will ensure designs are safe, compliant, efficient, and aligned with industry best practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce civil engineering design deliverables that meet all safety, quality, technical, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify practical and cost-effective design solutions through project scope reviews and site visits, communicating recommendations effectively to clients and project teams.
- Support, mentor, and develop CAD technicians, graduate engineers, and junior design staff.
- Prepare design risk assessments, technical reports, calculations, and specifications.
- Deliver designs in accordance with relevant industry regulations, professional standards, and water company specifications.
- Ensure design changes are effectively managed, implemented, and accurately recorded throughout project delivery.
- Undertake engineering activities using established quality management systems, procedures, and formal design processes.
- Estimate engineering hours and resource requirements for design packages.
- Attend and present technical solutions at HAZOP, ALM, KM, and other project review meetings.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery from concept through to completion.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 10 years' relevant design experience within the regulated water industry.
- Proven experience carrying out hydraulic calculations and developing hydraulic profiles.
- Degree, HND, or significant industry experience gained from Technician level progression.
- Strong IT skills and experience using relevant engineering software.
- Registered with a recognised professional institution and actively working towards Chartered Engineer status.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Chartered Engineer status.
- Experience working on both clean water and wastewater projects.
- Experience delivering infrastructure and non-infrastructure schemes.
- Experience in both outline and detailed design stages.
- Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and buildability considerations.
- Understanding of engineering drawing practices and technical documentation standards.

Salary & Benefits
Salary: Up to £65,000
