Senior Commercial Manager – Major Construction Project

Blue Water Recruitment are currently looking to speak with experienced Senior Commercial Managers for an opportunity with a leading Tier 1 main contractor delivering a major construction project in Milford Haven.

Due to the confidential and security-sensitive nature of the project, there is limited project and client information that can be disclosed during the initial stages of the recruitment process.

Candidates progressing through the process will be required to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) before further confidential project information can be provided.

We are therefore particularly interested in speaking with senior commercial professionals who are comfortable working within secure, confidential and highly controlled project environments.

The Role

The Senior Commercial Manager will take a leading role in the commercial and contractual management of a major construction project valued in excess of £60 million.

You will be responsible for managing project finances, contractual obligations, commercial risk and overall commercial performance, ensuring delivery is aligned with internal governance requirements and client/stakeholder expectations.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Taking senior commercial responsibility for a major construction project.
• Managing project budgets, forecasts, cash flow and overall commercial performance.
• Managing contractual obligations under NEC forms of contract.
• Developing and implementing commercial, pricing and procurement strategies.
• Identifying and managing commercial and contractual risk.
• Managing payment exposure, cash flow and project liabilities.
• Overseeing subcontractor procurement, negotiation and commercial agreements.
• Managing change control, variations and contractual entitlement.
• Producing accurate commercial reporting and forecasting.
• Working closely with project, operational and senior leadership teams.
• Managing relationships with key client and project stakeholders.
• Recruiting, leading and developing the project commercial team.
• Ensuring commercial activity complies with strict internal governance, contractual and project requirements.
• Maintaining appropriate levels of confidentiality and information control throughout project delivery.

Essential Experience
Candidates should demonstrate:

• Significant experience at Senior Commercial Manager, Commercial Manager or equivalent level within construction.
• Strong experience working within a Tier 1 or major main contracting environment.
• Experience commercially managing significant construction projects, ideally £60m+.
• Strong practical knowledge of NEC forms of contract.
• Experience developing and implementing pricing and procurement strategies.
• Strong understanding of cost management, forecasting, cash flow and commercial risk.
• Experience managing payment exposure and contractual liabilities.
• Proven experience recruiting, managing and developing commercial teams.
• Ability to operate effectively with senior clients and stakeholders.
• Degree qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management or a related discipline.

Security & Confidentiality

• Due to the nature of the project, confidentiality and the ability to work within a security-controlled environment are important requirements of the position.
• Candidates should be comfortable progressing through a recruitment process where certain information regarding the client, project and scope cannot be disclosed initially.
• Further information will be provided to suitable candidates at the appropriate stage and will be subject to the completion of an NDA.
• Previous experience working on secure, defence, nuclear, energy, critical infrastructure or other highly regulated projects would be advantageous.
• Existing security clearance and/or BPSS would also be beneficial.
