Senior Electrical Design Engineer – Building Services

Manchester | £50,000–£52,000 | Hybrid working: 3 days in the office

An established building services consultancy is looking for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join its Manchester office, with easy access to major transport links. Continued expansion and an exciting pipeline of projects have created this opportunity for a technically strong engineer who wants to take ownership of their work and help develop the team.

The consultancy brings together a team of 25+ across multiple offices, with a focus on sustainable design, technical quality and lasting client relationships. Its portfolio includes major mixed-use developments, high-rise residential schemes, student accommodation, commercial offices and specialist warehouse facilities, offering exposure to varied and technically challenging building services projects.

You’ll play a key role in delivering electrical designs, keeping clients informed and supporting junior engineers.

Responsibilities include:

• Developing electrical building services designs, specifications and technical drawings.
• Completing cable calculations, cable sizing and associated design calculations.
• Coordinating designs with mechanical engineers, architects and the wider project team.
• Providing clear client updates on progress, deadlines and technical matters.
• Reviewing junior engineers’ designs and calculations to maintain quality and accuracy.
• Mentoring junior colleagues and helping build their technical confidence.
• Managing your workload and taking responsibility for agreed project deliverables.

You’ll bring 4–6 years’ experience in electrical building services design, strong technical knowledge and excellent communication skills. The team is looking for someone dependable, with sound professional judgement, a calm approach and an interest in building a long-term career. You should be comfortable explaining design decisions to clients, reviewing others’ work and supporting less experienced engineers.

The package includes £50,000–£52,000, a company pension and hybrid working with three days per week in the office. You’ll join an established team across multiple offices, with opportunities to take on meaningful design responsibility and contribute to an exciting range of projects.
