Senior Infrastructure Automation Engineer

Build the software behind the infrastructure.

If you're a Python engineer who enjoys solving infrastructure challenges through software rather than firefighting production issues, this is the role you've been looking for.

We're recruiting for a Senior Infrastructure Automation Engineer to join a global technology organisation delivering a major government programme. You'll help build the automation platforms, tooling and Infrastructure as Code that underpin highly secure cloud environments supporting critical customer communications.

This isn't a traditional DevOps or Platform Engineering role.

You'll spend the majority of your time writing production-quality Python, building automation frameworks, developing internal engineering tools and eliminating manual infrastructure processes through software engineering best practice.

What you'll be working on

• Designing and developing automation frameworks in Python
• Building Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
• Creating reusable code generation platforms using Jinja2
• Developing PowerShell automation for Windows environments
• Managing configuration through Puppet
• Building internal developer tools and automation platforms
• Integrating automation into CI/CD pipelines
• Working alongside Cloud and Platform Engineers to improve scalability, reliability and operational efficiency

What we're looking for

You'll probably come from a Platform Engineering, Infrastructure Automation or Software Engineering background and have experience with most of the following:

• Strong commercial Python development
• Terraform and Infrastructure as Code
• AWS cloud services
• Building automation frameworks or internal tooling
• Jinja2 templating
• Puppet or other configuration management tools
• PowerShell
• CI/CD pipelines
• A passion for writing clean, maintainable and well-tested code
