Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our expanding design division during a key stage of development. This is a hands-on role for a proactive, detail-driven individual who can work independently while also collaborating closely with project teams and senior management.
You will be responsible for producing mechanical design work from concept to fully coordinated installation-ready designs across a mix of education and commercial, with a strong initial focus on education sector works.
This position is crucial to the continuing evolution of the design function and provides an opportunity to grow within a team that places a strong emphasis on technology-driven delivery, collaboration, and sustainable engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop technical mechanical designs from Stage 2 to Stage 5, aligned with internal standards and deadlines
Manage project requirements including full coordination of MEP services using Revit-based tools
Undertake initial contract and design scope reviews, including qualifications and technical documentation
Produce mechanical designs, calculations, and specifications using provided software
Liaise with internal project managers, senior stakeholders, and external consultants to ensure smooth design delivery
Attend and contribute to internal/external meetings with clients and delivery teams
Issue and respond to design-related RFIs
Conduct site surveys using LiDAR scanners and Matterport technology to support design accuracy
Support the preparation of energy modelling assessments and presentations
Maintain up-to-date design records and ensure QA/QC compliance
Work closely with CAD technicians and external draughtspeople to develop final design layouts and schematics
Skills & Experience Required:
Degree in Building Services Engineering (or equivalent qualification)
Experience within a mechanical building services design role
Proficiency with design tools such as Revit, Hevacomp, and AutoCAD
Strong technical understanding of mechanical building systems (HVAC, public health, LTHW, etc.)
Experience working to CIBSE, ASHRAE, and current UK Building Regulations
Interest in low-carbon, energy-efficient solutions and sustainable design
Excellent planning and time management skills with ability to meet tight deadlines
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
