Job Description:
Senior Mechanical Engineer
Our client is a leading engineering and construction organisation delivering complex nuclear infrastructure projects across the UK. They are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Construction Engineer to support the delivery of mechanical installation works on a major programme within a highly regulated environment.
Working closely with Package Managers, Contractors and multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will be responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination and assurance of mechanical construction activities, ensuring that works are delivered safely, compliantly and in accordance with project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Review mechanical work packages with Package Managers and Contractors to ensure alignment with programme, quality and installation requirements.
- Assess upcoming mechanical installation activities and raise Technical Queries (TQs) where clarification or design input is required.
- Develop a detailed understanding of project specifications, mechanical design requirements and installation standards, ensuring all works are delivered accordingly.
- Review and approve Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) for mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with project quality requirements.
- Coordinate and review mechanical drawings, installation sequences, isometrics, equipment layouts and vendor documentation.
- Monitor on-site mechanical installation activities, recording progress and verifying compliance with approved procedures and specifications.
- Produce and maintain short and medium-term construction programmes for mechanical works, tracking progress against key milestones.
- Monitor mechanical construction activities against approved Method Statements and Construction Schedules (MCS), identifying and resolving any deviations.
- Review and manage completion records, test packs, commissioning documentation and quality sign-off sheets.
- Support the management of mechanical subcontractors and installation teams to ensure safe and efficient delivery.
- Interface with engineering, quality, commissioning and project controls teams to ensure seamless project execution.
- Identify construction risks, constraints and opportunities, providing practical solutions to maintain programme delivery.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Construction Engineer, Mechanical Site Engineer, Mechanical Package Engineer or similar.
- Experience delivering mechanical installation works within nuclear, defence, power generation, energy, process, pharmaceutical or other highly regulated industries.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems including pipework, pumps, valves, HVAC, pressure systems, rotating equipment and associated plant.
- Experience reviewing technical specifications, construction drawings, ITPs and mechanical quality documentation.
- Knowledge of construction sequencing, installation methodologies and mechanical testing requirements.
- Ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and contractors within a live project environment.
- Strong planning, reporting and progress monitoring capabilities.
