About Westlakes Recruit

Westlakes Recruit is a specialist recruitment partner supporting major programmes across the UK's nuclear, defence and engineering sectors. We are currently recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Engineer on behalf of a leading engineering organisation delivering complex and nationally significant projects within highly regulated environments.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an experienced multidisciplinary engineering team, delivering innovative mechanical engineering solutions across the full project lifecycle while contributing to some of the UK's most strategically important programmes.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the delivery of mechanical engineering activities across a diverse portfolio of nuclear and infrastructure projects.

Working closely with Project Managers, Principal Engineers and multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality engineering solutions, ensuring compliance with industry standards and supporting the successful delivery of projects from concept design through to commissioning and operational support.

Hybrid working is available, with the role based from either Warrington or Leicester.

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for delivering mechanical engineering solutions across all phases of the project lifecycle, including the production, review and approval of engineering calculations, technical reports, design basis documentation, drawings and engineering models.

You will manage assigned engineering work packages, working closely with Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams to achieve project objectives, monitor progress, identify technical risks and support planning, estimating and resource management activities.

You will ensure engineering activities comply with relevant procedures, codes, standards and regulatory requirements, while contributing to Project Safety Assessment, configuration management, design governance and engineering assurance activities.

The role will also involve regular client and stakeholder engagement, participation in technical meetings and design reviews, resolution of technical challenges and the provision of clear engineering advice.

You will work collaboratively across engineering disciplines, share technical knowledge, support junior engineers where appropriate and contribute to the continuous development of engineering capability and best practice across the wider business.

Essential Requirements

Previous nuclear experience is not essential. We welcome applications from engineers working across sectors including defence, aerospace, oil & gas, energy, utilities, manufacturing, rail, marine, industrial process and other highly regulated industries.

Qualifications

Security Requirements

Due to the nature of the projects, successful applicants must be eligible to obtain and maintain UK Security Check (SC) clearance.

What's on Offer

Why Apply?

The UK nuclear sector is experiencing unprecedented investment across defence, decommissioning, new nuclear and clean energy programmes, creating exceptional long-term opportunities for experienced mechanical engineers.

This role offers the opportunity to work on technically complex and rewarding projects while developing your expertise within a collaborative engineering environment. Whether you're already working within the nuclear industry or looking to transition from another highly regulated sector, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to projects of national importance.
