We are representing a leading international engineering and construction contractor delivering major mission-critical and Data Centre projects across the UK and Europe.
They are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the project team on a major 40MW Data Centre development, supporting the Lead Engineer across technical delivery, package management, BIM, prefabrication, factory testing and commissioning.
This is a technically strong opportunity for an engineer who wants to work on a major new-build project and take ownership of significant mechanical packages with a combined value of millions of pounds.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will work closely with the Lead Engineer and wider project team, taking responsibility for assigned mechanical packages and ensuring suppliers and subcontractors deliver to the required programme, quality and technical standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage assigned mechanical packages from technical submission through installation, testing and handover.
- Prepare and manage Technical Submissions (Tech Subs) for mechanical packages.
- Coordinate suppliers, manufacturers and mechanical subcontractors.
- Monitor supply chain progress and ensure programme milestones are achieved.
- Meet regularly with subcontractor managers to review progress, technical issues and upcoming works.
- Support the Lead Engineer with the development and implementation of the project's prefabrication strategy.
- Assist with the design and development of prefabricated pipework modules and mechanical skids.
- Coordinate the manufacture, delivery and installation of prefabricated modules.
- Work closely with BIM specialists and BIM Technicians to develop and maintain the project model.
- Provide technical information, mark-ups and annotations to BIM teams.
- Participate in BIM coordination and model development workshops.
- Continuously review BIM models to identify clashes, technical issues and opportunities for improvement.
- Attend factory acceptance and factory testing activities for major mechanical plant.
- Verify equipment complies with project specifications and technical requirements.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' experience within the construction or engineering industry.
- Strong mechanical engineering background.
- Experience working on large-scale new-build construction projects.
- Data Centre experience is preferred but not essential.
- Experience on large commercial, residential, municipal or similarly complex projects will be considered.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical building services and HVAC systems.
- Experience with chilled water systems, cooling plant and mechanical pipework.
- Experience managing suppliers and mechanical subcontractors.
- Strong technical submission and package management experience.
- Experience coordinating with BIM teams and working with BIM models.
- Prefabrication experience is highly desirable.
- Factory testing / FAT experience is desirable.
