Senior Network Design Engineer (Rail Communications)

York (On-Site)
Inside IR35 Contract
Major UK Rail Infrastructure Programmes

We are seeking a Senior Network Design Engineer to support the delivery of secure telecoms, operational technology and SCADA networks across major rail projects.

You will help turn concepts and high-level designs into practical, deliverable solutions. This is a hands-on technical role, not a team leadership position.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and review network architectures, IP addressing, subnetting, and configurations
• Deliver solutions for CCTV, Voice, SISS, SCADA and backbone communications networks.
• Develop secure operational data networks and cyber security solutions.
• Produce technical documentation and test specifications.
• Support integration, testing and onsite implementation activities.
• Gather client requirements and contribute to technical proposals.
• Ensure designs meet rail industry safety, security and quality standards.

Essential Experience

• Railway Communications network experience
• Degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
• Cisco CCNP level knowledge or equivalent experience.
• LAN/WAN and industrial network design.
• Network security, firewalls, DMZs and IPSEC.
• SCADA and Operational Technology (OT) environments.
• Juniper networking technologies.
• Hirschmann industrial networking products.
• Systems Engineering Life-cycle knowledge.
• Rail and signalling experience.
• DDaT Configuration Checker.

Desirable

• Chartered Engineer or IRSE Licence.
• Software Defined Networking (SDN).
• Next Generation Firewalls.
• EAP-TLS and authentication server experience.
