Job Description:

Our client is a leading engineering and project services company who provide bespoke solutions across a number of marine related sectors. Due to recent projects won they now require a Senior Project Engineer to join their busy North East office.  
 
The Role
 
You will be involved with delivering complex engineering projects across the offshore, marine, oil & gas, renewable energy and defence sectors. This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive and driven professional with a strong technical background and proven project delivery experience. You will play a key role in managing technical work packages, coordinating suppliers and subcontractors, overseeing project documentation and compliance, and supporting projects through the full lifecycle from concept to delivery. The successful candidate will have excellent communication, planning and stakeholder management skills, combined with a solid understanding of project management methodologies and engineering applications within demanding, fast-paced environments.
You will be responsible for:

• Support the delivery of projects in line with the contractual obligations, the specification and the quality/safety requirements, in order to maintain or better the baseline budget and schedule.
• Manages technical work packages from concept through to realization
• Manages technical documentation related to export compliance
• Facilitates and drives constructability and construction readiness reviews
• Coordinate and manage technical documentation to support logistics operations
• Take responsibility for the planning, prioritizing and expediting technical packages and workshops/gate reviews required to achieve the overall project requirements
• Take responsibility for technical/delivery oversight and expediting one or more major subcontracts, delivering equipment to company specifications, including the management of interfaces and quality coordination.
• Co-ordinate purchasing activities such as requisitions, as agreed with the Project Manager. Liaise with QA to ensure ITP requirements are met in line with the project schedule.
• Compile and collate project documentation including project management process documents, technical / procurement specifications, progress reports, final documentation etc. to support the project delivery.
• Support the risk management and cost control processes.
• Support the required project mandatory HSE requirements and reviews e.g. RAMS, LOLER, PUWER, HAZID etc.
• Assist the Project Manager and Senior Engineer and liaise with production in support of the build, assembly, commissioning, acceptance and delivery phases of the project.
• Support the project's internal reporting cycle including team reviews, cost tracking, schedule updates, financial forecasting, resource forecasting and management reporting.
• Support the project's external reporting cycle including Client Reviews, Client Progress Reports, Key Supplier Reviews and Key Supplier Progress Reports.
• Support the effective close down of projects including analysis of the project result, documentation of the lessons learned, Client feedback obtained and handover activities defined and accepted.
• Work to and contribute to the development of company process/procedures and best practice.
• Provide technical and administrative support, as necessary, to the Project Manager.
• Deputise for the Project Manager in day-to-day operations during absence.

 
The Person
 

• Excellent understanding of the application of mechanical engineering (or other discipline) in the offshore, marine, oil & gas, renewable. sectors.
• Knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g. APM, PRINCE 2).
• Proven track record of working within a project team that has successfully delivered complex EPC projects in the offshore, marine, oil & gas, renewable markets.
• Excellent planning and configuration management skills.
• Good understanding of the construct of contracts and terms & conditions.
• Experience of identifying, drafting and agreeing contract amendments / VORs.
• Proven track record of successful management of multiple key suppliers / sub-contracts.
• Excellent communicator for written, verbal and presentation skills.
• Driven and motivated with high energy levels to direct the project team and its stakeholders.
• Self-starter, initiative taker and problem solver who can work with minimal supervision.

 
The ideal candidate would also have:

• Experience in Engineering/PM of complex design and build projects to clients globally.
• Membership of a recognised engineering body (e.g. IMechE).
• Qualifications/formal PM training e.g. PRINCE2, APM.
• Proficient user of software tools including Planning (e.g. MSP, Primavera), ERP/MRP (e.g. IFS,SAP), PDM (e.g. TeamCenter) and MS Office including SharePoint.
• As a minimum. educated to HNC level.
