Senior Quantity Surveyor - Hertfordshire



Location: Hertfordshire (Office-Based)



Salary: Up to £75,000 + Car Allowance + Benefits

A leading civil engineering contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team, supporting the delivery of a major civil engineering project.

Based primarily from the company's Hertfordshire office, this role offers the opportunity to play a key commercial role on a high-value infrastructure scheme. You'll spend the majority of your time in the office, with occasional travel to the project site in Suffolk to attend meetings, carry out site visits and support project delivery.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially astute Quantity Surveyor looking to progress within a well-established contractor delivering complex infrastructure projects.

The Role:

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you'll take responsibility for the commercial management of the project from procurement through to final account, ensuring financial performance is maintained while supporting the successful delivery of the works.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the commercial aspects of a major civil engineering project from start to completion.
• Administer and manage NEC3 and NEC4 contracts.
• Prepare and submit accurate applications for payment and valuations.
• Assess and process subcontractor applications, payments and final accounts.
• Produce cost reports, forecasts and monthly CVRs.
• Manage change control, compensation events and variations.
• Identify commercial risks and implement mitigation strategies.
• Procure subcontract packages and negotiate commercial terms.
• Prepare and agree final accounts with clients and subcontractors.
• Work closely with project managers, planners and engineers to ensure commercial objectives are achieved.
• Monitor project costs and identify opportunities to improve profitability.
• Attend commercial meetings, client meetings and occasional site visits in Suffolk.
• Provide commercial support and mentoring to junior members of the team where required.
• Maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors and key stakeholders.

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering.
• Strong background working on major infrastructure or heavy civils projects.
• Excellent knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts.
• Experience managing subcontractor accounts and complex commercial packages.
• Strong understanding of cost reporting, forecasting and CVRs.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
• Highly organised with strong commercial awareness.
• Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel occasionally to Suffolk.
