Job Description:

This Senior Quantity Surveyor role offers the opportunity to play a key part in the commercial success of complex construction projects. You’ll take ownership of financial and contractual management, ensuring value, quality and efficiency through every stage of project delivery. Location and Working Pattern
Darlington – full‑time, permanent position.

Client Overview
Our client is an established construction and infrastructure business delivering technically challenging projects to high industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Manage all commercial aspects of projects, including procurement, contract administration and cost control.
• Lead and support a team of surveyors to maximise project margins through effective cost forecasting, valuation and reporting.
• Oversee subcontractor management from tendering to final account.
• Identify, assess and mitigate commercial and contractual risks.
• Prepare and present regular cost reports, forecasts and cashflow updates.
• Drive margin improvement and optimise project profitability.
• Collaborate with project teams to ensure commercial objectives align with delivery targets.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients, suppliers and internal stakeholders.

Must‑have Requirements

• Degree or HND/HNC in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent qualification).
• Proven experience delivering multiple small or medium projects within a similar environment.
• Strong knowledge of standard construction contracts (JCT, NEC).
• Excellent understanding of commercial risk management and cost forecasting.
• Competent in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• CSCS and SMSTS certification, with a valid UK driving licence.
• Technical understanding of MEPH systems and interfaces.
• Highly organised, analytical and able to manage multiple deadlines.
• Strong communication and leadership skills with a collaborative approach.
