Senior Software Engineer
About Our Client
Our client builds the commercial intelligence layer for bio-pharma go-to-market teams: a single source of truth for healthcare markets, spanning millions of clinician profiles, billions of prescription and procedure claims, institutional data on tens of thousands of hospitals and health systems, and fair market value benchmarking for compliant engagements.
Founded by a team with deep roots in pharma consulting and biochemistry research, our client is a Y Combinator company that closed its pre-seed round.
The Role
Our client's product turns healthcare data into commercial intelligence for pharma go-to-market teams. The research and modelling side is owned by the Head of Data — what the team needs now is the engineering counterpart: someone who can turn that into a production-grade, enterprise-ready platform that top pharmaceutical companies can trust with sensitive data.
You'll be the go to engineer with high ownership, working directly with the Founder/CEO and the Head of Data to build and own the infrastructure, delivery, and engineering discipline behind the product. It's a hands-on, individual-contributor role today, with a clear, defined route to leading engineering as the team and client base grow. If that sounds like your kind of build, we'd love to get you on a call
What You'll Do
Own the engineering build for the core platform: architecture, infrastructure, deployment, and delivery
Act as the technical counterpart to the Head of Data, turning research and models into reliable, production-ready software
Build for the bar that regulated enterprise pharma buyers expect — reliability, data handling, and security — working alongside the company's compliance advisor rather than owning compliance yourself
Help set engineering standards and practices as the team grows from a handful of builders into a structured function
Work directly with the founding team on architecture decisions for major new client integrations and product initiatives
Take on progressively more ownership of the engineering function, with a clear path to leading it as the team scales
What We're Looking For
Significant experience as a senior or staff-level software/data engineer, ideally having taken a product from early-stage build through to enterprise-ready delivery
Strong Python, and comfortable working in Rust
Experience with graph and/or vector databases (Neo4j or similar), plus standard data infrastructure (Databricks, Elasticsearch, MongoDB or equivalents)
Comfortable working alongside ML/data science output — understanding how models are trained and productionised, even without owning model development yourself
Experience delivering products into regulated or compliance-sensitive environments (healthcare, fintech, or similar) — you don't need to own compliance, but you understand what "enterprise-ready" means to a regulated buyer
Genuine early-stage startup experience: comfortable with ambiguity and pace, and used to being one of a small number of engineers building the whole stack
A strong bias to action and ownership — someone who can be handed a hard, loosely-defined problem and run with it
Nice to Have
Background in bio-pharma, healthcare data, or life sciences
Prior experience as a founding engineer or early technical hire at a startup
Familiarity with ML pipeline tooling (feature engineering, model versioning/deployment), even if not a model builder
Experience working toward SOC 2 or equivalent security/compliance certifications
