Senior Software Engineer

Opportunity Overview

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join an established engineering software team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering software from preliminary specification through to verified implementation, while providing technical expertise across software design, development, testing and verification.

This is an opportunity to work on innovative, technically complex products and solutions within a collaborative engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Apply strong software engineering practices to develop software for new, innovative and commercially focused products and solutions.
• Support, maintain and enhance existing software in line with business and customer requirements.
• Take ownership of software development activities across the full Software Development Life Cycle, including:
  • Specification
  • Design
  • Implementation
  • Testing
  • Verification
  • Maintenance
• Deliver assigned software projects and contribute to wider engineering activities as required.
• Provide technical guidance, support and advice to less experienced engineers.
• Act as a technical role model for junior members of the team.
• Collaborate with customers, suppliers and external partners on software-related matters where required.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of software development practices and engineering processes.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial software engineering experience with C++.
• Experience taking software projects through the full Software Development Life Cycle.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Visual Studio.
• Experience working within a structured engineering or product development environment.
• Relevant degree or equivalent qualification in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Experience with GUI/UX or Human-Computer Interaction (HCI).
• Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell.
• Experience developing software for complex technical, engineering or physical-world products.

We're looking for an experienced software engineer who can take ownership of technically complex work, contribute throughout the development lifecycle and provide technical guidance to colleagues.

You should have a strong foundation in C++, good engineering discipline and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
