The Role
They are seeking an experienced Software Controls Engineer to take ownership of automation, software engineering and electrical controls across multiple high-value projects. This is a hands-on, project-driven role that covers the full lifecycle - from initial concept and software development to FAT/SAT testing and troubleshooting.

You’ll work closely with our SLT, leading initiatives to standardise processes and software standards while supporting both new builds and legacy systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement PLC/HMI/SCADA control systems from scratch (Siemens TIA Portal essential, Rockwell Allen Bradley & Mitsubishi desirable).
• Produce technical documentation including Functional Design Specifications (FDS) and O&M manuals.
• Collaborate with engineering and process teams to deliver projects to the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance.
• Support FAT/SAT activities and provide remote and on-site assistance for field-based issues where needed.
• Work across multiple simultaneous projects, ranging from £50k to £15m in value.
• Maintain and improve software standards and libraries to move towards greater standardisation.
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety systems, SIL, LOPA, and BS EN standards.

Person Specification

• Proven experience developing control systems in Siemens TIA Portal (S5/S7 experience beneficial), Allen Bradley (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, SLC 500), Mitsu (MELSEC/ MX) – a mix would be ideal.
• Background in special purpose machinery, high speed, motion control, and other highly regulated industries.
• Strong knowledge of safety systems, process systems, and relevant legislation.
• Skilled in producing detailed technical documentation.
• Time-served/HNC/HND/Degree in Electrical, Control, or Software Engineering
• Self-starter with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and within a project team.
• Adaptable, willing to travel European and world wide, and able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
