Technical Sales Engineer – Heavy Fabrication

Technical Sales Engineer – Heavy Fabrication
Rotherham
c. £50,000 depending on experience
Turn technical enquiries into commercially sound proposals.
We're looking for a Technical Sales Engineer who understands heavy fabrication and knows what it takes to turn a customer enquiry, drawing or tender into an accurate, commercially viable proposal.
You'll join a long-established engineering manufacturer designing and manufacturing bespoke fabricated equipment and structural steelwork for demanding industrial applications.
This isn't a high-volume sales role.
The challenge is understanding what the customer needs, establishing what it will take to manufacture, bringing together the engineering and commercial detail, and developing a proposal capable of winning the work at the right price.
The Role
Working within the commercial team, you'll take enquiries from initial RFQ or tender through to quotation and proposal.
You'll review drawings, specifications and tender documentation, clarify technical requirements and work closely with Design, Engineering and Fabrication to establish the scope, manufacturing requirements and costs behind each opportunity.
You'll then translate that information into a clear commercial proposal for the customer.
Your responsibilities will include:
What We're Looking For
You'll already have experience working within a fabrication environment.
You need to understand how bespoke fabricated or engineered-to-order products move from drawing and specification through estimating, manufacture and delivery.
Your current title could be:
Technical Sales Engineer · Sales Estimator · Estimator · Proposals Engineer · Tendering Engineer · Commercial Engineer
The title is less important than the experience behind it.
You'll need:
Experience involving materials handling equipment, conveyors, structural steelwork or heavy industrial equipment would be particularly relevant.
You don't need to know this company's particular products when you arrive.
You do need to know fabrication.
The Opportunity
You'll be joining an established engineering manufacturer supplying bespoke equipment into sectors including mining, quarrying, recycling, power generation and heavy industry.
The business has longstanding customer relationships and a reputation built on engineering capability, quality and reliability.
You'll inherit an established customer base, but your value won't simply come from maintaining relationships.
It will come from being able to look at an opportunity and understand the relationship between:
What the customer wants.
What engineering needs to deliver.
What fabrication will take.
What it will cost.
And how to turn all of that into a proposal capable of winning the order.
